About the Lactation Resource Centre

The Lactation Resource Centre (LRC) specialises in providing the community and health care industry with comprehensive and readily useable information resources on all aspects of human lactation. We facilitate the further understanding of the scientific basis of lactation through education and research.

The LRC was established by the Australian Breastfeeding Association (then Nursing Mothers' Association of Australia) in 1989, and has grown rapidly to become one of the most comprehensive collections of breastfeeding information in the world, with a collection of more than 20,000 articles and books, videos and case histories.

With its staff of experts in the field of human lactation, the LRC provides services to many local and international individuals and organisations, and is regularly consulted by government and world agencies.

The LRC plays a key role in providing continuing education in lactation for health professionals and the general public.

Services and facilities include:

  • reference library of over 20,000 articles on breastfeeding
  • comprehensive book collection on breastfeeding and related topics
  • public access database with details of all material held in the LRC, including keyword search facility*
