National Business Manager

Salary range $65,000-75,000 (neg)+ super

Mothers Direct is the wholly owned trading company of the Australian Breastfeeding Association, based in Malvern East, Melbourne. We specialise in high quality and practical parenting products including breastfeeding and pregnancy fashion, maternity bras, breast pumps, baby products, and parenting and children’s books.  Our business delivers across Australia, including via our Association’s 300 local groups and branches. Our shops are in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

You will be responsible to the Mothers Direct board for making the most of opportunities as part of an Australia-wide entity with 16,000 members and 1,800 committed volunteers. Key responsibilities include: business planning, setting and achieving budgets and sales targets and expense control; purchasing and stock control, new products and business development; managing supplier and customer relationships, and staffing. The ideal applicant will have:

• Been accountable at a high level for the store and mail order/internet profitability of a small-medium sized business

• Extensive experience in all aspects of retail management, especially mail order and internet

• A strong customer service focus, with knowledge and understanding of the parenting and babies market

• Track record of maintaining and implementing strong business management and financial systems including for stock management

• Ability to provide timely and accurate analysis and reports of trends in the business, and

• Shown you can lead, motivate, manage and develop a team of local and interstate paid staff, and work effectively with a dispersed network of volunteers and customers
