Mother to Mother

By Virginia Thorley

Mother To Mother: The history of the Queensland branch of the Australian Breastfeeding Association, 1969-2009

In 1969 when breastfeeding was at a low ebb, mothers who wanted to breastfeed often received lukewarm support and advice. Often they were isolated by distance from their families - who may not have been able to provide useful advice, anyway. The need these factors created resulted in rapid growth in the 1970s for the fledgling Nursing Mothers' Association (now ABA).

During the past 40 years, the Queensland Branch of the organisation now known as the Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) has developed from tenuous beginnings in the north of the state to a position of influence.

This book documents how the perseverance and dedication of volunteers contributed to making breastfeeding acceptable, and how new developments make ABA even more accessible to mothers everywhere.
