Immune Factors In Breastmilk Study Module 010 (7L CERPs)

The purpose of this study module is to provide an overview and framework for understanding the protective immune factors in breastmilk and the interactions between these factors.

Key content areas:

  • Characteristics of a newborn infant that may predispose the infant to infection by pathogens;
  • Immune factors in breastmilk that provide protection against pathogens;
  • Different mechanisms of defence the infant has against pathogens;
  • Interactions between immune factors in breastmilk and multifunctional nature of some immune factors;
  • Conditions for which brestmilk can provide protection;
  • Effect of length of lactation on the concentrations of certain immune factors in breastmilk.
